About Alaska Energy Authority

The Alaska Energy Authority is an independent corporation governed by a board of directors with the mission to “reduce the cost of energy in Alaska.” AEA is the state's energy office and lead agency for statewide energy policy and program development. 
 
 Whether building modern and code-compliant bulk fuel tank farms, upgrading to high-efficiency generators in rural powerhouse systems or integrating renewable energy projects, AEA emphasizes community-based project management. AEA’s core programs work to diversify energy Alaska’s energy portfolio, lead energy planning and policy, invest in Alaska’s energy infrastructure and provide rural Alaska with technical and community assistance.
 
 AEA also manages the Renewable Energy Fund, the Emerging Energy Technology Fund, the Power Cost Equalization Program and various Energy Efficiency and Conservation Programs.  AEA provides grants and loans for qualified energy infrastructure projects and also owns energy infrastructure for the benefit of Alaskans.

Regional Energy Planning is a way for Alaskans to determine their energy priorities and formulate a concrete, implementable, fundable energy plan.

Energy Technologies

Energy efficiency is a low-cost energy solution that is both quick to deploy and available in every community in the state.

Grants & Loans

AEA provides loans to local utilities, local governments, or independent power producers for the development or upgrade of power facilities.

Power Cost Equalization

The Power Cost Equalization (PCE) payments reduce the unit cost of power to residential and community customers of eligible utilities.

Railbelt Energy

In response to a directive from the Alaska Legislature, AEA is the lead State agency for the development of a Regional Integrated Resource Plan for the Railbelt Region.

Rural Energy Assistance

AEA provides technical assistance to rural utilities with the primary objectives of ensuring infrastructure lasts its full economic life, preventing catastrophic electrical emergencies, and building community self-sufficiency.
